<image:caption>If the idea of being in a therapy room seems stifling, you may wish to take your counselling outdoors. Using a “walk and talk” approach in the Peak District, ecotherapy allows you to benefit from the therapeutic effects of nature on your physical, mental and spiritual well-being. We will, quite literally, explore new paths through, together.</image:caption>

<image:caption>You may feel that there is nothing in particular requiring you to pursue individual counselling or psychotherapy at present. You may, however, have an increasing awareness of your own well-being and a desire to prioritise and enhance this without knowing exactly which direction to take. A range of well-being practices are available for you to explore on both an individual or group basis.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Pathfinders Therapy - Hi, I’m Laura Telford</image:title>
<image:caption>I am an experienced and qualified therapist with an MSc (Distinction) in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Keele University. As a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work in accordance with their Ethical Framework to ensure the highest level of professional standards for the safety and care of my clients. My private practice is based in Macclesfield, Wilmslow and the surrounding areas. In addition to working in the traditional room setting, I also offer opportunities to work in nature with walk & talk sessions at various locations in the Peak District such as: Macclesfield Forest, Goyt Valley, Rainow, Bollington, Whalley Bridge and Buxton. Whilst my preferred approach is face to face, I have also been offering sessions via zoom or telephone since lockdown. Please get in touch to discuss which option would be most suited to your needs and to check my current availability.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Pathfinders Therapy - What I Do</image:title>
<image:caption>The relationship between you and your therapist will be absolutely key to your healing journey. For that reason, I offer a FREE 30 minute initial consultation so that we can see whether we feel we can work together to meet your needs. Using an integrative and holistic approach, I am able to draw upon a range of theories and techniques to enable us to find the best path through for you. Whilst person-centred talking therapy is my main approach, I use CBT in my role as a clinical psychotherapist at an eating disorders unit. My other area of interest is somatics, a practice that uses the mind-body connection to explore underlying issues and look at ways of releasing these to help you move forward.</image:caption>

<image:title>Ecotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Put simply, Ecotherapy is ‘outdoor therapy’: where psychotherapy takes place away from the traditional therapy room and moves into the natural world. It can take various forms but the format I offer can be seen as ‘walk and talk’ therapy in the countryside around the hills, forests and trails of The Peak District and Cheshire. Psychotherapy in the natural environment can help us explore new ways of connecting with our inner selves and enhance our growing awareness. By taking therapy outdoors, we can be reminded that everything in nature is exposed to constant chaos: uncertainty is familiar and change is inevitable.</image:caption>

<image:title>Ecotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Observing these natural processes and recognising how they mimic our current unwelcome state, can enable us to surrender control and trust that our current state will pass. Just as trees and flowers go through a cycle of death-regeneration, so do we. Even in winter when things appear to be dead, the roots are still at work beneath the surface, readying for spring – just as we are constantly changing and evolving. Our connectedness with nature should remind us that we are a part of something infinitely greater than ourselves; and that we always have the potential for growth.</image:caption>

<image:title>Well-Being - Meaning Making</image:title>
<image:caption>Finding meaning is entirely unique to each individual and we each have a responsibility to create the meaning that aligns to our core self. The recent pandemic and current international conflict can force us to question what it all means. We can all start by exploring our very personal “whys”: What creates a sense of meaning for you in your life? Do you feel fulfilled or are missing something but not sure what it is? Are the choices you’ve made aligned to your true self and your core values? These are questions we all need to ask ourselves but it can feel daunting to go it alone. These questions can be explored within the safety of an individual therapy session or during group workshops and retreats.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/620a5e5a45aa7d54b1752e87/2de0433d-b607-4172-b32c-760ec1897e5f/connecting.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Well-Being - Connecting</image:title>
<image:caption>Connection is a core human need but increasingly modern life is getting in the way of us making meaningful relationships with others. Increased reliance on technology and home-working have resulted in a pandemic of loneliness, isolation and disconnect. Well-being therapy can help foster that authentic connection with another individual, group of people or nature to ensure our basic needs are being met.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/620a5e5a45aa7d54b1752e87/b2410680-08aa-4af9-a0d1-ab50d238b5ba/grounding.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Well-Being - Grounding</image:title>
<image:caption>Grounding basically means ‘coming back to the earth’; it is an ancient practice that involves re-connecting your body, mind and spirit to the planet by physically “touching” nature. This can be done through cold-water immersion, wild swimming or walking barefoot. Any of these practices can be experienced during an individual ecotherapy session, specific workshops or group retreats. Research has shown that when you physically connect with the earth it calms your nervous system, reduces inflammation, improves energy and generates well-being and peace.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/620a5e5a45aa7d54b1752e87/5626e622-53c5-47b5-9252-df3d97af2392/moving.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Well-Being - Moving</image:title>
<image:caption>Whilst talking will be central to the therapy, we can also use somatics: the mind-body connection to explore what is going on for us internally. The body is always present and insightful and provides a pathway towards healing the mind and soothing the soul. For me, listening to the body, connecting with it and moving is fundamental to well-being – whether through dance, running or yoga. We will draw on established practices such as the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method and mindfulness breath work to release any anxieties, fears and uncertainties we may be holding at an embodied level in a way that promotes holistic well-being.</image:caption>
